Last Week
I finally read Zen Cho’s Sorcerer to the Crown, and despite extremely high expectations I was still blow away. One of the best ways to spend a Sunday hough I cannot wait for book 2 now! Also, I think this one might count for the Once Upon a Time challenge.
Then the weather was more spring-like over here and I spend lots of time shoving my phone camera into my cats’ faces. Oh well, they are too cute not to play paparazzi 🙂
On the blog, I posted the second installment of my “5 On a Theme”- series on Queer Horror and a review of The Liminal People.
Currently
I’m still juggling way too many books at once, and as a result it’ll take me ages to finish any books But they are all so fascinating! Do you read one book at a time or are you a juggler as well?
I’m nearly done with The Three-Body Problem, definitely recommend it if you’re into sience fiction and physics. And then I started another non-fiction, which I talked about in my non-fiction post:
Definitely an important read if you care about the food supply, health and environmental issues and how they are connected. And since I’m only listening to two audiobooks at the moment, I also started a third. It’s a bad habit. But also because Whitney of Brown Books & Green Tea highly recommended it.

Isn’t it great when a book lives up to expectations? I always worry about being disappointed… glad that didn’t happen to you this time. The World According to Monsanto sounds like a good one, and Citizen is already on my list.
I’m reading So Long, See You Tomorrow by William Maxwell and just started When Breath Becomes Air on audio. Happy reading!
Yes usually my expectations are way to high, too. Luckily Sorcerer libed up to the hype 🙂
Monsanto is really an atrocious company, but I feel we need to be better informed about our food so I’m reading about all the stuff they got up to 😀

Your cats are adorable! I’m definitely a juggler too. Citizen is such an important book in my opinion. Also, I’m curious about the Liu book, I keep hearing about it.

I’m really enjoying The Three Body Problem, my attempt at reading something non- American 🙂

Whitney put Citizen on my wishlist and I promised I will read it sometime this year. It seems like such an important book, so I definitely will.
Malgudi Days is my pick for the readalong too. I can’t wait for it to start ! (Mostly because my bookban will be over…)
I can only juggle one book at a time, at the speed I read lol. Sometimes I add in a novella or nonfiction, but the majority of the time I only have the energy for one.

I have yet to figure out what Narayan I can get my hands on. Sadly my library doesn’t have much.

This week I DNFed two books, which was very uncharacteristic of me. One was even by a favourite author (albeit an early work).
Yes it is perfect! Read through it in a day, I could not put it down 🙂

Starting another book is always a good idea in my book. I have started MANY this week, and finished a few as well. And it’s not like you can go wrong reading Citizen. It’s so good! So acclaimed! You will love it!

I usually read two books at a time, sometimes more, very rarely less than two.
At the moment, I’m reading just one. It might be because of the upcoming readathon (my first), I keep thinking I need to finish the one I’m reading, before the readathon, not starting new books…and obviuosly this make my reading of this 1 book painfully slow. 😦
I’ll start a second book today!

I am a bit of a juggler too – I tend to have 1 fiction, 1 classic and 1-2 nonfictions on the go at once, because I like to have something on hand to suit my mood. I am currently reading science-fiction drama The Martian by Andy Weir and my classic read is Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell. Then I am also reading a Christian non-fiction and a history of Henry IV.
I like the look of Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho – I look forward to your full thoughts on that. Happy reading for the rest of the week 🙂

Heh cats do know how to find the best spots 🙂 That’s a lot of juggling but I choose different fictionnonfiction etc works like you as well. Oh yay Sorcerer was awesome I really think you’ll love it 🙂
I like to read one book at a time, maybe 2. Not so much because I can’t keep track, but mostly because I don’t like it when it takes me a long time to finish a book (unless it’s a long book).
I really need to read Citizen. And, I’ll be interested to hear more about the book on Monsanto, even though I know it will make me mad. 🙂
Yeah there’s def something to be said for not reading too many books at the same time! The Monsanto is well-researched and absolutely will get anyone who care mad.

I remember when I was in college Monsanto came recruiting and many of my classmates were excited and admired the company. I am wondering what some of those who joined the company are doing now. Definitely a book juggler here, although that’s been something I’ve only begun doing in the last couple of years. Your kitties are precious. I used to have a tabby like that and he was the BEST.
Right now I’m reading Mr. Splitfoot by Samantha Hunt and so far it’s weird and fascinating. Also still reading Middlemarch for the readalong.

I’m the worst at setting my book expectations too high, it’s rare that a book can live up to those lofty expectations! Glad to hear you encountered a book that didn’t just live up to your expectations, but exceeded them!
Yes it is so rare that it happens! Probably we all should learn to temper our expectations but it’s so hard if books get hyped so much.
